Flavors of Wedding Cake: What's The Truth Behind

All of us want everything about our wedding to be just perfect. While we get busy deciding the cake topper, all of us completely forget about the wedding cake flavor. Mocha, vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry - the choices are unlimited.

But before deciding the flavor it is very important to know the truth about wedding cake flavor before you dispose them off as a petty task. Picking one is a lot more than just a simple inky-pinky-ponky. You need to put a lot of thought and consideration and make sure you pick something that not only is liked by your groom but is equally enjoyed by your guests as well.

Here are some tips that will help you choose the wedding cake flavor.

Keep it relevant to your theme

If you have a wedding theme for your wedding, the best idea would be to incorporate the flavor of the cake and make it relevant with the wedding theme. For example, if you are planning a beach wedding, the flavor of your cake can be something exotic and tropical like coconut. If you and your husband both are vegetarians and that is the theme of your wedding, you may go for a carrot flavored cake. Flavors like vanilla and chocolate would work best if you are having a traditional and classic wedding.

Color correction

As important is the flavor of the cake, so is the color. If your wedding theme has a lot of brown and pink colors, a chocolate cake with a strawberry frosting would be an excellent choice. If your wedding colors are green, a pistachio wedding cake would be excellent. Here are some more options that you can consider:

White – Vanilla, coconut
Yellow – Peach, Pineapple, Lemon
Brown – Mocha, Almond, Coffee, Cappuccino
Green – Lime, Pear, Mint
Pink – Cherry, Cranberry
Blue – Blueberry
Red – Apple

Emotional quotient

A cake flavor can also mean digging into your past memories with your would be spouse and deciding a flavor based on that. Did the first time you ever shared a cake was a chocolate flavored one. Did you guys’ dessert on a strawberry cake after he proposed to you. Choosing a cake based on emotional value will hence make it much dearer to you and to your groom.

Money concerns

Cakes don’t come cheap, especially the tired wedding ones. So do set a budget to the cake if you want to avoid overspending. Also remember the price of the cake also depends on his flavor. The more exotic the flavor is, the pricier it generally is. So set a budget and make sure you stick to it.

Explore more options

Nobody asked you to just stick to the usual chocolate, vanilla and butter cream. The options are endless. There are a lot of variations which you would like to explore and try on. Try fudgy chocolate, marble, coconut, pumpkin, spice, orange, dark chocolate, rum, peppermint, peach, caramel, mango, blueberry, lime, banana, lemon poppy seed, white chocolate etc.

Winter Wedding Cake Ideas

Creative Autumn and Winter Wedding Cakes

It is wonderful to have a seasonal wedding cake at your reception. At the same time, certain ideas can get done to death, like the snowflake motif for a winter wedding.

Get inspired by these unique and creative ideas for autumn and winter wedding cakes:

1. Apple wedding cake

Your wedding cake should tie in with the general style and colors of your celebration. For example, if you were having a rustic wedding in a barn, your cake should have an equally rustic look. A layered apple cake would be magnificent. Stack layers of cake with a cream cheese frosting for a rich flavor that is perfect for a fall wedding. Allow the edges of the cake to show between the frosting for a rough look. Top your apple cake with marzipan or sugar apples for a pretty decoration that gives a hint about the flavor. This cake would look fantastic displayed on a wooden slab instead of a fancy crystal or silver cake stand.

2. Tartan wedding cake

If you have chosen to use rich colors throughout your wedding, such as in the bridesmaids jewelry and dresses, the flowers, and the table linens, it would make perfect sense to use deep tones for your cake. I love the idea of a tartan wedding cake for a fall or winter reception. It would obviously be ideal for a wedding with a Scottish flair, but would work equally well for any wedding. To play up the Scottish tradition of the tartan design, decorate the cake with pretty lavender colored thistles made of sugar. A rich spice cake or chocolate filling is a great accompaniment for the look of the dark tartan design.

3. Wedding cake with cardinals

Birds are a fun whimsical element to incorporate into a wedding cake design. For a winter wedding, it would look absolutely beautiful to frost a cake in pale blue and decorate it with bright red cardinals. Have the cardinals perched on bare branches with just a few sprays of red berries, or forest green pine boughs (all made of frosting of course). What a wonderful seasonal alternative to the expected snowflake design. The pale blue and scarlet colors look so pretty together that you might even want to use them to inspire your wedding color palette. Think about how lovely your bridesmaids would be in ice blue satin dresses with clear crystal bridesmaid jewelry and red rose bouquets.

4. Wedding cake with an abstract geometric design

For those who adore the colors of fall leaves, but want a more unique wedding cake, there are some terrific options. You can use the autumnal oranges, yellows, and reds without doing a literal leaf design. Create a modern fall wedding cake by using the colors to make an abstract geometric design. Think Bauhaus or Mondrian. Or go the other direction and have your baker create an opulent cake that resembles stained glass using the autumnal hues to make a beautiful scene using fall elements like acorns, pine cones, and trees. Your unique take on the fall leaf motif will be sure to wow your guests.

5. Wedding cake with marzipan fruits

A final idea is to design a cake around sugar or marzipan fruits like pears and pomegranates. They would be very elegant on a simple ivory fondant cake with gold ribbon around the tiers. One thing is certain: with so many extraordinary options, there is no reason to have a boring wedding cake!
